Miracles Big And Small

The Rebbe

When more than 300 drones and missiles are launched towards Israel and 99% are intercepted- with zero casualties-that is categorized as a miracle of biblical proportion!

The G-d who split the sea and rained manna down for 40 years, was here to protect our land and its people from potential devastation.

He is the same G-d who miraculously provides nourishment, health and sustenance to me, daily!

Today, marks the Rebbe’s birthday and if I had to choose one key message of his, it is that if we could just open up our eyes, we would see the hand of G-d in every single detail of our lives.

Outsized miracles are helpful reminders of that.

A woman recently shared with me a miracles she had experienced.
A car had crashed into her, but literally centimeters from where she was sitting, and so she and her child walked out of the car perfectly fine.
The car was totaled but they were unscratched, and she asked what might be G-d’s message here?

I shared that a miracle is not simply a one time occurrence but rather it serves as a life altering moment- that has positive, long lasting effects.
Up until that point you lived under the perception that you had limited powers.
We each harbor beliefs about ourselves and about our life circumstances, what we believe we are capable of, what we think we can and cannot accomplish; what challenges we believe we can overcome and in which we will forever remain stuck.
Because we believe that it is the efforts of our own hands- solely the efforts of our own hands- that make us who we are.

Then we experience a miracle, and suddenly all the laws of nature are suspended, and it offers us our own “Exodus” moment. That miracle reveals to us that there is a G-d behind the scenes, in my life too!

That moment leaves an imprint on our minds and our psyche that indeed we are not limited to rules or preconceived beliefs.

The experience sets a new precedence- that we can be and do much more than we once thought possible. We now have living proof that we aren’t limited by natural boundaries.
And we now have a reminder that there is G-d who is behind every single step that we take.

Just as the Passover story imprinted in the Jewish psyche that G-d is running the show, so too our own miracle stories come to remind us that G-d is here all along, setting the stage for every occurrence in our lives.

With that perspective, even in the darker and more challenging moments, I won’t despair.
I will know that G-d is right here in those experiences too.

While the Rebbe encouraged us to open our eyes and see G-d in the details, in his compassionate voices, he also turned to G-d and asked Him to show us “goodness in a clear and visible way”.

May we take heed of the Rebbe’s encouragement to see and sense G-d in every part of our lives, and may G-d take heed of the Rebbe’s plea to show us absolute- bright as day- goodness!

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and a Happy Passover.
